An update on the bank holiday weekend challenge.

After a chat with a contact about this challenge. It has been suggested I post more about it. So here goes.

The basics are still the same:

In order to get the weight down and get it all in one bag iā€™m considering travelling with just an Android tablet. Ok its a Motorola Xoom 32GB with a 32 GB MicroSD card on board.

So how do we do this? What Apps are essential on an Android device for a jaunt such as this? What should be junked? Am I crazy? Can it be done? Will it be good enough for business?

What I am trying to do is replace this:

with this:

Can it be done?

A Bank Holiday Weekend Challenge

So i’m off to Luxembourg on business trip on behalf of SystemNet Data, a Court Capital Partners business next week. Normally I travel on business with tons of kit in my briefcase notably, a laptop, tablet device, kindle, iPod, external hard drives, camera, memory stick, backup mobile and more. In order to get the weight down and get it all in one bag i’m considering travelling with just an Android tablet. Ok its a Motorola Xoom 32GB with a 32 GB MicroSD card on board. So how do we do this? What Apps are essential on an Android device for a jaunt such as this? What should be junked? Am I crazy? Can it be done? Will be good enough for business? Let me know your thoughts? On the subject of Luxembourg wheres a good hotel and places to eat and drink?

An old enemy moves on

Now before you get too excited, its not a person or an organisation. Those of you who like myself spend half of your lives on a motorway will call it an institution. Its usually white, driven by a service engineer, never seen away from the outside lane. Never driven at less than 100mph. Always on a mission. The drivers always seem to think that a cigarette length between them and the car in front is acceptable braking distance. Yes ladies and gentlemen. The Astra Van has gone out of production. An enemy in so many ways but to be fair its probably the drivers as well. How a 1.6 engined box could top 130 fully loaded has always been beyond me. A friend as well if you were having trouble making it home down the M1 at 7pm of the evening a lazy route would be sit behind an Astra Van and let it do the hard work for you. Indeed it was also with a colleagues Astra Van that one night I recorded my fastest ever run between Leeds and London. I won’t list the time here because even though it was so many years ago, I do fear the traffic police will want to have a little “chat” with me about it. So there we are these little pests will start to disappear from our roads soon. I for one in a strange way will miss them.

When is a restaurant not a restaurant?

The answer to this is quite simply when there are more children in there than adults, the adults cannot control their children and the restaurant management couldn’t care less. Thats when. This is exactly what happened on Saturday when we went to the Olive Garden in Raynes Park, dial in the fact the the air conditioning wasn’t working and on one of the units the down vents had been covered with tape. The food at the Olive Garden is always of an exceptional standard. Its just such a pity they got the service wrong on this occasion.
